Description: Documents Ericsson SmartEdge SNMP agent capabilities for the IETF MPLS L3VPN standard MIB on SmartEdge series BRAS.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is RBN-IETF-MPLS-L3VPN-STD-CAP?

RBN-IETF-MPLS-L3VPN-STD-CAP is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES module describing how Ericsson's SmartEdge/SEOS-based platforms (SmartEdge MSER, SM Metro Ethernet Transport, and SSR Smart Service Router families) implement the standard IETF MPLS-L3VPN-STD-MIB defined in RFC 4382. Rather than exposing its own runtime data, it documents the vendor's conformance to and deviations from that standard MPLS L3VPN MIB, covering supported groups and variations tied to specific SEOS software releases. As a capabilities statement it does not expose interface, environmental, or performance counters itself; instead it tells an NMS which MPLS-L3VPN-STD-MIB objects are safe to poll on a given SmartEdge/SSR software version. It is explicitly dependent on RFC 4382 (MPLS-L3VPN-STD-MIB) and Ericsson's PRODUCT-RELEASE/SEOS version scheme. It is used during NMS onboarding and provisioning of Ericsson SmartEdge BRAS/edge routers to determine feature and OID support before deploying MPLS L3VPN monitoring. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the RBN-IETF-MPLS-L3VPN-STD-CAP file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in RBN-IETF-MPLS-L3VPN-STD-CAP. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Ericsson SmartEdge Multi-service Edge Router (MSER)
  • Ericsson SM Metro Ethernet Service Transport platform
  • Ericsson SSR Smart Service Router

Monitoring Examples

This module is a conformance/AGENT-CAPABILITIES statement with no runtime data objects of its own, so there is no monitoring scenario to describe; an NMS instead reads it offline to determine which MPLS-L3VPN-STD-MIB tables (e.g. VPN interface and routing tables) a given SEOS release actually implements.
