Description: Cisco ME1200 Metro Ethernet switch MIB for loop protection configuration to detect and disable switch ports causing network loops.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ME1200-LOOP-PROTECTION-MIB?
This is a Cisco ME1200 Metro Ethernet access switch MIB for Layer 2 loop protection, detecting and shutting down switch ports that are causing network loops, in the carrier Ethernet switching technology area. It exposes global loop-protection parameters (transmit interval, shutdown period) plus per-interface configuration and status objects. For monitoring it reports whether loop protection is enabled per port (me1200LoopProtectionInterfaceParamEnabled), which action is configured on loop detection, and a per-port operational status table revealing which ports have actually been shut down due to a detected loop. It complements Cisco's MSTP MIB on the same platform (ME1200-MSTP-MIB) as an additional loop-prevention layer. It is deployed on Cisco ME1200 metro Ethernet access switches at customer or aggregation sites where accidental cabling loops must be automatically contained. Engineers can download the ME1200-LOOP-PROTECTION-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ME1200-LOOP-PROTECTION-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco ME1200 Metro Ethernet access switch
Monitoring Examples
An operator would poll me1200LoopProtectionInterfaceStatusTable (indexed by me1200LoopProtectionInterfaceStatusIfIndex) to see whether a specific port has been shut down due to a detected loop, then check me1200LoopProtectionInterfaceParamAction and me1200LoopProtectionInterfaceParamTransmit to confirm the configured detection/response behavior on that port. me1200LoopProtectionGlobalsShutdownPeriod indicates how long the port will remain disabled before it can recover.
What Can Be Monitored
- loop protection enable state (global/per-port)
- loop detection action configured per port
- port shutdown status due to loop
- loop-protection transmit interval
- shutdown period after loop detection
