Category: Technology: Loop Detection, Vendor: D-Link
Description: Manages D-Link Loop-back Detection (DLF) and related loop prevention features on D-Link switches.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is Dlink-Dlf-MIB?
This D-Link private enterprise MIB manages Destination Lookup Failure (DLF, also called unknown unicast) traffic handling on D-Link switches, controlling how frames with unrecognized destination MAC addresses are egress-filtered per port. It exposes a single main configuration object listing the ports on which unknown-unicast egress filtering/DLF handling is applied. Its monitoring value is configuration-state verification rather than hardware health: confirming which ports are set to drop or forward unknown-unicast flood traffic, useful when diagnosing unexpected flooding or connectivity issues caused by DLF port-list misconfiguration. It has no significant dependency on external standard MIBs beyond general SNMPv2 conventions. It is deployed on D-Link managed switches in networks that want to limit unknown-unicast flooding to specific trusted ports for security or bandwidth-conservation reasons. Engineers can download the Dlink-Dlf-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Dlink-Dlf-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- D-Link managed switch
Monitoring Examples
Reading rlDlfPortList lets an admin confirm exactly which switch ports have destination-lookup-failure (unknown unicast) egress filtering enabled, verifying that flood traffic is being restricted to the intended uplink or trunk ports. An unexpected port bitmask value can reveal a misconfiguration causing unwanted unicast flooding to access ports.
What Can Be Monitored
- ports with unknown-unicast/DLF egress filtering enabled
