Description: L2VPN-MIB module
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is L2VPN-MIB?
L2VPN-MIB is an IETF draft-stage MIB (based on draft-weilian-l2vpn-mib-02) for managing Layer 2 VPN services, covering L2VPN instance, pseudowire (PW), attachment circuit (AC), and VPLS bridge tables. Per its revision history it exposes an L2VPN instance table, a pseudowire table integrated with the existing PWE3-MIB structure, an attachment circuit table (renamed from an earlier interface table), and a bridge table capturing VPLS MAC learning and aging state. Conceptually this would let an operator monitor the software/control-plane status of L2VPN service instances, pseudowire up/down state, and MAC learning/aging behavior in a VPLS bridge, though no concrete sample objects are available to confirm exact naming in this draft. It explicitly depends on and integrates with the existing PWE3-MIB for pseudowire representation, reflecting its role as a companion module in the broader MPLS/L2VPN standards MIB family. It would be deployed on provider edge routers offering L2VPN/VPLS services in an MPLS network. Engineers can download the L2VPN-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in L2VPN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- ZTE Corporation MPLS provider edge router (L2VPN/VPLS implementation of draft-weilian-l2vpn-mib)
Monitoring Examples
No concrete sample objects were provided for this draft MIB, so specific object names cannot be confirmed; based on its description, a realistic scenario would involve polling the L2VPN instance table for service status, the PW table (integrated with PWE3-MIB) for pseudowire operational state, and the bridge table for VPLS MAC aging behavior. An operator would use these to detect a down pseudowire or unexpected MAC table churn in a VPLS instance. This description is based on the module's stated design rather than directly observed object names.
What Can Be Monitored
- L2VPN instance status
- pseudowire (PW) operational state
- attachment circuit (AC) status
- VPLS bridge MAC learning/aging state

| l2vpnStatis1DayIntervalTable | 1.3.6.1.2.1.10.0.1.2.9 | not-accessible | L2VPN traffic statistics means accumulative statistics of traffic on an L2VPN at one side of PSN for the current day measurment and the previous days. The statistics values are used for billing, load balancing and network performance analysis. The table is indexed by l2vpnInstanceIndex. If the L2vpnType is vpws(1), the l2vpn traffic statistics is equal to the PW traffic statistics for the current interval. If the L2vpnType is vpls(2) and ipls(3), the l2vpn traffic statistic is the sum of all PWs traffic statistics of the L2VPN for the current interval. | |
