What Is PW-TC-STD-MIB?

PW-TC-STD-MIB is an IETF PWE3 standards-track MIB that defines only textual conventions (shared data types) for pseudowire edge-to-edge networking concepts, rather than exposing any managed objects of its own. It belongs to the MPLS/pseudowire networking technology area and serves purely as a supporting type library imported by other pseudowire MIBs such as PW-STD-MIB, PW-MPLS-STD-MIB, and vendor pseudowire MIBs. It carries no monitoring data itself -- no hardware status, performance counters, or fault objects -- since its sole content is TEXTUAL-CONVENTION definitions (e.g. pseudowire type enumerations, status codes) used consistently across the pseudowire MIB family. Every functional pseudowire MIB that references these conventions has a hard dependency on this module for correct type interpretation. It is deployed alongside functional pseudowire MIBs (loaded by the MIB compiler, not polled directly) on any router implementing pseudowire/PW services, and consulting the PW-TC-STD-MIB OID list is mainly useful for confirming the exact type definitions referenced by those dependent modules before compiling them.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PW-TC-STD-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

What Can Be Monitored

  • textual convention/type definitions only (no live data); pseudowire type and status enumerations used by dependent MIBs

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer; applies to any router implementing pseudowire (PWE3) services

Monitoring Examples

A MIB browser or NMS would load PW-TC-STD-MIB before PW-STD-MIB or PW-MPLS-STD-MIB so that fields typed with its textual conventions (such as pseudowire type or admin/operational status enumerations referenced by those modules' tables) display correctly rather than as raw integers. There are no objects in this MIB to poll directly; an administrator's interaction with it is limited to ensuring it is present in the MIB search path. Missing this module during compilation would cause import errors when loading any dependent pseudowire MIB.
