What Is HC-PerfHist-TC-MIB?
HC-PerfHist-TC-MIB is an IETF standards-track MIB (RFC 3705) that supplies high-capacity (64-bit) textual conventions layered on top of the original PerfHist-TC-MIB, intended for performance-history counters on high-speed telecom interfaces where 32-bit counters would wrap too quickly. It defines data types rather than managed objects, so its category of exposed data is limited to reusable counter and interval textual conventions consumed by other performance-monitoring MIBs. It has no direct monitoring role for hardware or software status by itself; its value is entirely in enabling accurate 15-minute and 24-hour interval performance counters (e.g. error seconds, severely errored seconds) in the MIBs that import it, on circuits fast enough to overflow standard counters. It explicitly depends on and extends PerfHist-TC-MIB (RFC 3705) and is commonly imported by SONET/SDH, DS3, and other high-speed interface performance MIBs. It is used wherever high-speed WAN or transport interfaces need standards-based, high-capacity performance history reporting, and any HC-PerfHist-TC-MIB reference found in such an interface MIB signals that the module implements 64-bit counters suitable for circuits fast enough to overflow the original PerfHist-TC types.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HC-PerfHist-TC-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB; applies to high-speed transport/WAN interface hardware (e.g. SONET/SDH, DS3) across any vendor's equipment
Monitoring Examples
This is a textual-conventions-only module with no sample objects of its own; it defines types such as high-capacity 15-minute and 24-hour interval counters that other MIBs (e.g. high-speed SONET/DS3 performance MIBs) import to build their actual PerfCurrentTable/PerfIntervalTable structures. There is no standalone monitoring scenario since it contributes no pollable OIDs directly.
