What Is PerfHist-TC-MIB?
PerfHist-TC-MIB, standardized in RFC 3593, is an IETF textual-conventions module that defines data types for tracking performance history counts over 15-minute and 24-hour intervals, a pattern widely used in telecommunications interface management. It is vendor-neutral and belongs to the telecom/WAN interface performance-monitoring category, supplying the shared type definitions (rather than instance data) that other interface MIBs use to structure historical performance counters. Engineers implementing a new interface MIB commonly keep a PerfHist-TC-MIB reference close at hand for the exact syntax of these interval-counter types. Since it defines only textual conventions, it exposes no pollable objects itself and cannot directly reveal hardware or software status such as uptime or temperature. Its significance is as a dependency: numerous telecom interface MIBs (e.g. DS1/DS3, ATM, SONET) import these conventions to expose rolling 15-minute and daily performance history bins for error and utilization counters. It is deployed implicitly wherever carrier-grade WAN interfaces report historical performance statistics via SNMP.

Monitoring Examples
No sample runtime objects exist since this module defines only the 15-minute and 24-hour performance-history textual conventions used by other MIBs. An administrator would not poll this module directly; instead, a WAN interface MIB (for example one tracking DS1/DS3 or ATM line errors) would use these conventions to expose a table of historical 15-minute interval counts, letting an NMS trend error rates over the past day. This module supplies shared type definitions rather than being a monitoring target itself.
