What Is Juniper-AUTOCONFIGURE-MIB?

Juniper-AUTOCONFIGURE-MIB is a Juniper Networks enterprise MIB managing automatic subscriber interface configuration (auto-sensing encapsulation) on Juniper E-series broadband access routers. It exposes a per-interface table covering whether auto-configuration is enabled, the detected/negotiated encapsulation type, and a lockout mechanism with configurable minimum/maximum lockout durations, elapsed lockout time, and the next scheduled lockout time. Its monitoring focus is software/configuration-state health of subscriber-facing interfaces: confirming auto-configuration is enabled where expected, and detecting an interface stuck in a lockout state (which would prevent new subscriber sessions from establishing on that interface), a useful early signal of a misbehaving or flapping subscriber line. It is Juniper-specific and works in concert with JUNIPER-SUBSCRIBER-MIB for the subscribers ultimately provisioned through auto-configured interfaces. It is deployed on Juniper E-series broadband edge routers handling PPPoE/DHCP subscriber connections in ISP access networks. Engineers can download the Juniper-AUTOCONFIGURE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Juniper-AUTOCONFIGURE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Juniper Networks E-series broadband access routers

Monitoring Examples

An administrator walks juniAutoConfTable (juniAutoConfEntry) per juniAutoConfIfIndex to confirm juniAutoConfEnable is set and juniAutoConfEncaps matches the expected encapsulation for that access line. If juniAutoConfLockoutSupported is true, juniAutoConfLockoutElapsedTime approaching juniAutoConfLockoutTime (bounded by juniAutoConfLockoutMin/Max) signals an interface is in a penalty lockout, likely due to repeated failed auto-configuration attempts from a misconfigured CPE. juniAutoConfNextLockoutTime tells the operator when the interface will next accept auto-configuration attempts, useful for scheduling a manual intervention.

What Can Be Monitored

  • auto-configuration enable status per interface
  • detected encapsulation type
  • lockout state and elapsed time
  • lockout min/max duration
  • next lockout retry time
