Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Juniper-AAA-MIB?

Juniper-AAA-MIB is a Juniper Networks enterprise MIB module defining managed objects for Authentication, Authorization, and Accounting (AAA) services on Juniper ERX/E-series broadband edge routers. It exposes configuration data covering subscriber domain and realm delimiter parsing, BRAS licensing limits, subscriber count limits, tunnel calling-number formatting, and interface identifier/adapter formatting used for subscriber sessions. Rather than raw hardware telemetry, it is used primarily to monitor and verify AAA subsystem configuration and licensing status, such as how many BRAS-licensed users are permitted versus consumed and how domain/realm name parsing is configured. It is a Juniper-proprietary enterprise MIB built around standard RADIUS/AAA concepts but does not itself extend a specific IETF MIB. It is deployed in broadband access networks where E-series routers act as a Broadband Remote Access Server (BRAS) terminating large numbers of subscriber PPP/DHCP sessions. Engineers can download the Juniper-AAA-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Juniper-AAA-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Juniper ERX/E-series broadband edge routers (BRAS)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator polls juniAaaAssignBrasLicensedUsers against juniAaaAssignBrasLicense to track how close a router is to its licensed subscriber ceiling, alerting before new sessions are rejected. Objects like juniAaaAssignDomainDelimiters, juniAaaAssignRealmDelimiters, and juniAaaAssignDomainParseOrder let an operator confirm that domain-based routing of subscriber authentication requests is configured as expected. juniAaaAssignSubscriberLimit provides a hard capacity ceiling used for planning on a given router.

What Can Be Monitored

  • BRAS license count
  • licensed subscriber usage
  • subscriber limit
  • domain/realm delimiter configuration
  • domain parse order
  • tunnel calling number format

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using juniAaaIncomingInitiateRequests OID:

Select a Juniper ERX/E-series broadband edge router (BRAS AAA) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type juniAaaIncomingInitiateRequests into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. The number of AAA incoming initiate requests. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
