Description: Juniper Networks MIB for managing VLAN membership, tagging, and forwarding configurations on Juniper EX switching platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is JUNIPER-VLAN-MIB?

JUNIPER-VLAN-MIB is a Juniper Networks enterprise MIB for managing VLAN membership, tagging, and forwarding configuration on Juniper EX-series switching platforms, based on pre-standard IEEE 802.1Q VLAN concepts combined with LAN Emulation Client (LEC) associations. It exposes a VLAN table describing each VLAN's name, ID, and type, along with port-group and MAC-list associations, plus a VLAN interface table covering IP addressing and protocol bindings per VLAN interface. Its monitoring value is chiefly software/configuration status of Layer 2/3 VLAN segmentation: confirming VLAN IDs, names, and interface IP/subnet-mask bindings are correctly provisioned, which helps detect VLAN misconfiguration or unintended overlaps. It represents a pre-standards implementation predating full IEEE 802.1Q ratification and modern Q-BRIDGE-MIB conventions, so it should be interpreted alongside standard bridge/VLAN MIBs where both are present. It is deployed on Juniper EX-series switches in enterprise LAN environments using VLAN segmentation for traffic isolation. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the JUNIPER-VLAN-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in JUNIPER-VLAN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Juniper Networks EX-series switches

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll jnxVlanTable to check jnxVlanName, jnxVlanID, and jnxVlanType for each configured VLAN, and jnxVlanInterfaceTable to verify jnxVlanInterfaceIpAddress and jnxVlanInterfaceSubNetMask assigned to each VLAN interface. A VLAN interface showing an unexpected jnxVlanInterfaceIpAddress or a mismatched jnxVlanInterfaceSubNetMask would reveal a VLAN interface misconfiguration causing routing or connectivity issues for that segment. jnxVlanPortGroupInstance and jnxVlanMacListInstance further let an operator confirm which ports and MAC filters are associated with a given VLAN.

What Can Be Monitored

  • VLAN name and ID
  • VLAN type
  • VLAN port group membership
  • VLAN MAC list associations
  • VLAN interface IP address and subnet mask
  • VLAN interface protocol binding
