Category: Network Interfaces, Vendor: IBM

Description: IBM MIB providing proprietary interface management extensions for IBM networking products beyond the standard IF-MIB.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is IBM-INTERFACE-MIB?

IBM-INTERFACE-MIB is an IBM proprietary MIB that supplements the standard IETF IF-MIB with IBM-specific interface-management extensions, most notably the ability to reset per-interface counters. It exposes a clear-counters table mirroring standard interface statistics, octets, unicast/multicast packets, and errors in both directions, but structured as writable objects that let an operator zero out a specific interface's counters. Its monitoring role is about interface performance/error tracking and counter management rather than physical hardware sensors: inbound and outbound error counters mirror standard IF-MIB error counters, and the ability to reset them is useful for baselining traffic after a maintenance event. It explicitly depends on and extends the standard IETF IF-MIB, since it operates on the same interface indices and counter semantics. It is deployed on IBM networking equipment wherever administrators need standard IF-MIB style traffic monitoring plus the ability to reset counters per-interface, and can download the IBM-INTERFACE-MIB file directly to load into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in IBM-INTERFACE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • IBM networking equipment (routers/switches) supporting IF-MIB extensions

Monitoring Examples

An admin would read ibminterfaceClearTable/ibminterfaceClearEntry counters such as ibminterfaceClearInErrors and ibminterfaceClearOutErrors alongside the standard IF-MIB counters to track interface error rates, then set ibminterfaceClearInAll/ibminterfaceClearOutAll to reset a specific interface's counters after resolving a cabling issue, allowing a clean baseline for subsequent monitoring.

What Can Be Monitored

  • interface inbound/outbound octet counts
  • interface unicast/multicast packet counts
  • interface error counts
  • interface counter reset control
