Description: Maps VLAN group IDs to interface index (ifIndex) values for routed VLAN interfaces.

IPNetwork Monitor uses several OIDs from this MIB in network discovery and polling the applicable devices. Start monitoring CISCO-VLAN-IFTABLE-RELATIONSHIP-MIB with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor.

What Is CISCO-VLAN-IFTABLE-RELATIONSHIP-MIB?

The CISCO-VLAN-IFTABLE-RELATIONSHIP-MIB is a Cisco-proprietary SNMP module for Catalyst switches and routers that support routed VLAN interfaces (SVIs), part of Cisco's Layer 2/Layer 3 VLAN switching technology area. It exposes a single mapping table correlating VLAN IDs with ifIndex values for interfaces such as ISL, 802.1Q subinterfaces, and switched virtual interfaces, so it is essentially configuration/topology data rather than counters or sensors. It is used to identify which routed interface (SVI) handles a given VLAN and which physical port underlies it, letting an admin cross-reference the standard IF-MIB's operational status and traffic counters for that interface to confirm the VLAN's Layer 3 path is healthy. It notably depends on IF-MIB (for ifIndex semantics) and complements CISCO-VTP-MIB for full VLAN topology understanding. It is typically deployed in enterprise campus and data center networks wherever routed VLANs (SVIs) are configured on Catalyst-class switches, making CISCO-VLAN-IFTABLE-RELATIONSHIP-MIB SNMP monitoring a routine part of verifying VLAN-to-interface mappings stay consistent with the network's Layer 3 topology.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-VLAN-IFTABLE-RELATIONSHIP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco Catalyst switches
  • Cisco routers with VLAN/SVI support

Monitoring Examples

An administrator polls cviVlanInterfaceIndexTable/cviVlanInterfaceIndexEntry to translate a cviVlanId into its corresponding cviRoutedVlanIfIndex, then cross-references that ifIndex in the standard IF-MIB ifTable to check operational status and traffic counters for that VLAN's routed interface. The cviPhysicalIfIndex object additionally identifies the underlying physical port carrying the VLAN, letting the admin trace a routing anomaly on a given VLAN back to the specific physical interface and trunk encapsulation involved.

What Can Be Monitored

  • VLAN ID to ifIndex mapping
  • routed VLAN interface index
  • physical interface associated with a VLAN
  • SVI/subinterface identification
