Description: HP ICF SNMP MIB for Power over Ethernet (PoE/PoE+) port power allocation, consumption, and limit management on HP ProCurve switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HP-ICF-POE-MIB?

HP-ICF-POE-MIB is a Hewlett-Packard proprietary SNMP module in the HP ICF family that manages Power Sourcing Equipment (PSE) for Power over Ethernet (PoE/PoE+) ports on ProCurve/Aruba switches. It exposes per-port power delivery data — current, voltage, power draw, allocation method, and configured power budget — as well as operational status and power mode for each PoE-capable port. This is squarely a hardware health and capacity monitoring MIB: administrators use it to watch actual power consumption against allocated limits, detect a port that has failed to power up, and track LLDP-negotiated power needs from connected devices such as IP phones or wireless access points. It builds on concepts from the standard POWER-ETHERNET-MIB (RFC 3621), using HP-specific table names (hpicfPoePethPsePortTable) alongside the standard PoE model. It is deployed wherever HP switches supply PoE to phones, cameras, and wireless APs, particularly in installations near the switch's total power budget. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the HP-ICF-POE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HP-ICF-POE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HP ProCurve PoE switch
  • HP Aruba PoE switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator can poll hpicfPoePethPsePortTable/hpicfPoePethPsePortEntry for objects like hpicfPoePethPsePortCurrent, hpicfPoePethPsePortVoltage, and hpicfPoePethPsePortPower to track live power draw on each port, and check hpicfPoePethPsePortOperStatus to see whether a port has actually powered on its connected device. Comparing hpicfPoePethPsePortActualPower against hpicfPoePethPsePortPowerValue or hpicfPoePethPsePortPoePlusPowerValue reveals whether a port is nearing its allocated power ceiling, which would explain a PoE device (like an AP) failing to power up when the switch's total budget is exhausted.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-port PoE current draw
  • per-port PoE voltage
  • per-port power consumption
  • PoE port operational status
  • power allocation mode
  • LLDP-negotiated power detection
