Description: HP ICF SNMP MIB for Private VLAN (PVLAN) configuration with primary, isolated, and community VLAN types on HP ProCurve switches.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is HP-ICF-PRIVATEVLAN-MIB?
HP-ICF-PRIVATEVLAN-MIB is an HP proprietary MIB defining Private VLAN (PVLAN) configuration for HP ProCurve switches, a Layer 2 feature area within HP's ICF architecture. It exposes configuration data describing primary, isolated, and community VLAN roles and how ports/VLANs map to each other, via tables such as hpicfPrivateVlanTable and hpicfPrivateVlanMappingTable. As a configuration-focused MIB its monitoring value is primarily verifying that PVLAN topology is correctly provisioned (e.g., which VLANs are isolated vs. community) rather than reporting hardware health or performance counters, though misconfiguration here can manifest as unexpected traffic isolation faults. It depends on the standard Q-BRIDGE-MIB/VLAN model for base VLAN identification, extended with HP-specific private VLAN semantics, and includes a conformance group (hpicfPrivateVlanConformance) describing implementation compliance. It is typically deployed in multi-tenant or security-segmented environments (e.g., hosting, guest networks) using HP ProCurve switches to isolate hosts sharing a subnet. Engineers can download the HP-ICF-PRIVATEVLAN-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HP-ICF-PRIVATEVLAN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- HP ProCurve switch
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll hpicfPrivateVlanTable to confirm each VLAN's configured PVLAN type (primary, isolated, or community) and cross-reference hpicfPrivateVlanMappingTable to verify which secondary VLANs are associated with a given primary VLAN. An unexpected entry or missing mapping in these tables would reveal a private VLAN misconfiguration allowing isolated hosts to communicate when they shouldn't. The hpicfPrivateVlanConformance group itself carries no runtime data, only compliance statement definitions for implementers.
What Can Be Monitored
- private VLAN type per VLAN (primary/isolated/community)
- primary-to-secondary VLAN mapping
- private VLAN port assignments
