What Is F3-SYNC-MIB?

F3-SYNC-MIB is an ADVA Optical Networking proprietary MIB for the FSP 3000 (F3) platform, managing synchronization and timing objects including SyncE, network clock references, and (in later revisions) precision clock-phase/offset adjustments. It exposes configuration data (admin state, selected reference, clock mode, protection-group membership) alongside operational/status data (operational state, secondary state, quality level) for each timing source. Each F3-SYNC-MIB OID in this family, such as f3SyncOperationalState and f3SyncSecondaryState, directly supports monitoring the operational health of timing distribution hardware by revealing whether a clock source is locked, in holdover, or degraded, while the added clock-phase/offset objects monitor drift and jump events critical to network timing accuracy. As an ADVA platform MIB it is used alongside other F3-series MIBs covering the same optical network elements. It is typically deployed on ADVA FSP 3000 optical transport platforms requiring precise synchronization, e.g. mobile backhaul with SyncE/timing distribution.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in F3-SYNC-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

What Can Be Monitored

  • sync source admin state
  • sync source operational state
  • secondary/holdover state
  • selected clock reference
  • clock quality level (QL)
  • synchronization domain/protection group membership

Supported Devices

  • ADVA Optical Networking FSP150CM/CC (F3 platform) carrier Ethernet device (SyncE/timing synchronization) — Identified via cross-reference against the module's own release notes ('MIB version ready for release of FSP150CC devices GE101 and GE206') and its F3-PTP-MIB/F3-SYNCJACK-MIB sibling dependencies, all of which are FSP150CM/CC (F3) platform modules; the previous description's 'FSP 3000 R8'/'FSP 3000 OLS' DWDM optical transport attribution was incorrect — FSP 3000 is an unrelated ADVA product line.

Monitoring Examples

f3SyncTable/f3SyncEntry, indexed by f3SyncIndex, expose f3SyncAdminState and f3SyncOperationalState so an admin can confirm a timing source is enabled and operationally locked; f3SyncSecondaryState gives finer-grained status such as holdover or free-run for diagnosing timing degradation. f3SyncSelectedReference and f3SyncQL show which reference the clock has selected and its quality level, letting an operator catch an unwanted reference switch. f3SyncClockMode and f3SyncNetworkClockType describe the synchronization mode (e.g. SyncE) in use, and f3SyncDomain groups timing objects by synchronization domain on larger platforms.
