Category: Technology: Time Synchronization, Vendor: Meinberg

Description: Meinberg Radio Clocks SNMP MIB for LanTime series network time servers providing GPS/PPS synchronization status and configuration.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is MBG-SNMP-LT-MIB?

MBG-SNMP-LT-MIB is a Meinberg Radio Clocks proprietary module for the LanTime series of network time servers, exposing GPS/PPS-based time synchronization status and configuration objects. It provides firmware version information, current NTP synchronization state, stratum level, and details of the active reference clock including its ID, name, and offset. Its monitoring value directly covers both software status (firmware version, NTP daemon state) and core device function health: it lets administrators confirm the time server is synchronized, identify which reference clock (e.g., GPS) is currently active, and measure the offset/accuracy of that synchronization along with authentication key configuration. It builds on the standard NTP protocol model, exposing Meinberg-specific detail beyond what a generic NTP MIB would provide. It is typically deployed wherever precise, GPS-disciplined time synchronization is required, such as data centers, telecom facilities, or financial trading environments using Meinberg LanTime appliances. Engineers can download the MBG-SNMP-LT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MBG-SNMP-LT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Meinberg LanTime network time server

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll mbgLtNtpCurrentState and mbgLtNtpStratum together with mbgLtNtpActiveRefclockName and mbgLtNtpActiveRefclockOffset to confirm the LanTime server is synchronized to its GPS reference and within acceptable offset. A degraded mbgLtNtpCurrentStateVal or a growing mbgLtNtpActiveRefclockOffsetVal would reveal a loss of GPS signal or clock drift requiring investigation, while mbgLtFirmwareVersion confirms the installed software version.

What Can Be Monitored

  • NTP synchronization state
  • stratum level
  • active reference clock and offset
  • firmware version
  • number of reference clocks
  • NTP authentication key ID
