Description: Monitors and manages IP address pools used for subscriber address allocation on Ericsson routers.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ERICSSON-ROUTER-IPPOOL-MIB?

ERICSSON-ROUTER-IPPOOL-MIB manages and monitors IP address pools used for dynamic subscriber address allocation (e.g., PPP, DHCP) on Ericsson SmartEdge/SM/SSR routers. It exposes a pool table per interface/context giving pool address, mask, total size, and address-usage breakdown (available, unusable, in-use), along with configurable utilization thresholds and trap-enable flags. This is fundamentally a resource/configuration-status MIB used to monitor software-level capacity: operators watch eriRouterIpPoolAvailable versus eriRouterIpPoolSize to catch pool exhaustion before new subscriber sessions start failing, and eriRouterIpPoolSendTrap/threshold objects allow proactive trap-based alerting rather than constant polling. It's a standalone Ericsson MIB with no explicit dependency on external IETF address-pool standards, reflecting Ericsson's subscriber-management architecture. It's typically deployed in broadband/mobile edge routers (BNGs) where address pools serve large numbers of dynamically-provisioned subscriber sessions. Engineers can download the ERICSSON-ROUTER-IPPOOL-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ERICSSON-ROUTER-IPPOOL-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Ericsson SmartEdge Multi-service Edge Router (MSER)
  • Ericsson Smart Service Router (SSR)
  • Ericsson broadband/mobile edge router (BNG)
  • Ericsson SmartEdge router series

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls eriRouterIpPoolTable/eriRouterIpPoolEntry, keyed by eriRouterIpPoolInterfaceIdx, comparing eriRouterIpPoolInuse and eriRouterIpPoolAvailable against eriRouterIpPoolSize for a pool identified by eriRouterIpPoolAddr/eriRouterIpPoolMask. If eriRouterIpPoolAvailable falls below the configured eriRouterIpPoolThreshold, the router can raise a trap (per eriRouterIpPoolSendTrap) via eriRouterIpPoolMIBNotifications, alerting the NOC that the pool on eriRouterIpPoolInterfaceName is nearing exhaustion and new subscriber sessions may soon be rejected.

What Can Be Monitored

  • IP pool size
  • addresses in use
  • addresses available
  • unusable addresses
  • utilization threshold
  • pool exhaustion trap status
