Description: Manages Link Layer Discovery Protocol (LLDP) neighbor discovery and advertisement on Dell switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Dell-LLDP-MIB?

Dell-LLDP-MIB is a Dell private extension MIB that supplements standard LLDP (Link Layer Discovery Protocol) support on Dell (Force10/PowerConnect-lineage) switches with vendor-specific automatic-advertisement and management-address objects. It exposes configuration and neighbor-discovery data, including whether LLDP is enabled, auto-advertisement mode, per-port advertised management address details, and LLDP-MED extensions. Its monitoring value is largely topology/software-configuration status -- confirming LLDP is enabled and correctly advertising the switch's management IP/MAC to neighbors, and per-port advertisement status, which is important for network topology discovery tools and cable/connectivity troubleshooting rather than hardware health per se. It explicitly extends the standard LLDP-MIB (and LLDP-MED) rather than replacing it, adding Dell/Force10-specific automatic address advertisement features. It is deployed on Dell enterprise data center switches in environments that rely on LLDP for automated network topology mapping and voice/LLDP-MED endpoint discovery. Engineers can download the Dell-LLDP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Dell-LLDP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Dell PowerConnect/Force10 enterprise switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator polling rlLldpEnabled and rlLldpAutoAdvPortsStatus can confirm LLDP is globally active and which ports are currently auto-advertising, useful when validating a newly cabled switch is discoverable by neighboring devices. The rlLldpAutoAdvLocPortManAddrTable/rlLldpAutoAdvLocPortManAddrEntry rows, indexed by rlLldpAutoAdvLocPortNum, expose the specific management address (rlLldpAutoAdvManAddr) advertised per port, letting an operator detect a misconfigured or missing management address on a given interface. rlLldpDuMode and rlLldpXMedConfig indicate whether LLDP-MED discard-unrecognized handling and voice/media endpoint discovery are enabled.

What Can Be Monitored

  • LLDP global enable status
  • per-port auto-advertisement status
  • advertised management address per port
  • LLDP-MED configuration
  • LLDP receive-clear counters
