Description: Configures MAC address-based traffic prioritization for QoS on Dell switching platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Dell-MAC-BASE-PRIO?

This is a Dell (originally RADLAN-derived, hence the rl- object prefix) proprietary MIB for configuring MAC-address-based traffic prioritization used for QoS on Dell Ethernet switching platforms. It exposes support/version indicators and tables that let an administrator force a specific Layer 3 CoS value for traffic from particular MAC addresses (rlMacBasePrioForceL3CosTable), matched by address and mask, with associated priority parameters. Its monitoring value is largely configuration-state visibility: confirming that MAC-based priority overrides are enabled and correctly provisioned (row status, address/mask pairs, and parameter values), which helps diagnose why traffic from a given device is or isn't receiving its expected QoS treatment. It is a self-contained vendor MIB with no notable external standards dependency beyond general QoS/CoS concepts. It is deployed on Dell managed switches in environments using MAC-based QoS policies to prioritize specific end-devices, and a Dell-MAC-BASE-PRIO download supplies the object definitions needed to manage these overrides from a MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Dell-MAC-BASE-PRIO. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Dell managed Ethernet switch

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would check rlMacBasePrioForceL3CosEnable and the rlMacBasePrioForceL3CosTable/rlMacBasePrioForceL3CosEntry rows to confirm a specific rlMacBasePrioForceL3CosAddress/rlMacBasePrioForceL3CosMask pairing is active (via rlMacBasePrioForceL3CosRowStatus) and mapped to the intended CoS value. If a device's traffic isn't receiving expected prioritization, inspecting the corresponding rlMacBasePrioForceL3CosParamsTable entry would reveal whether the parameters were misconfigured or the row was never activated.

What Can Be Monitored

  • MAC-based priority feature support/enable state
  • forced MAC address/mask priority mappings
  • priority mapping row status
  • priority parameter values
