Description: Defines managed objects for Digital Video Broadcasting Return Channel via Satellite (DVB-RCS) systems, characterizing satellite terminal network entities.

IPNetwork Monitor uses several OIDs from this MIB in network discovery and polling the applicable devices. Start monitoring DVB-RCS-MIB with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor.

What Is DVB-RCS-MIB?

DVB-RCS-MIB is a vendor-neutral ETSI/DVB standards MIB defining managed objects for Return Channel Satellite Terminals (RCSTs) that implement the DVB-RCS interactive satellite broadband standard (ETSI EN 301 790). It exposes system-level configuration and identity data for the terminal's outdoor unit (antenna, transmit/receive characteristics, local oscillator), profile/feature declarations against the SatLabs interoperability profiles, and location information, alongside a broader object tree for RCST-specific operational data. Its monitoring value lies in characterizing both the satellite terminal's hardware configuration and its ongoing behavior: antenna size and gain, SSPA (transmit amplifier) presence, transmit/receive type and band, and receive local-oscillator frequency together let an operator confirm the terminal's RF hardware is correctly configured and operating within the satellite network's parameters. The module explicitly builds on the DVB-RCS/ETSI EN 301 790 standard and references SatLabs interoperability profile declarations as a related specification. It is deployed on VSAT-style satellite terminals (RCSTs) at remote sites using DVB-RCS interactive satellite broadband, managed from a central satellite network operations center. Engineers implementing or auditing this functionality typically reference the DVB-RCS-MIB RFC/standard documentation for the authoritative specification.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in DVB-RCS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB (ETSI DVB-RCS)
  • applies to Return Channel Satellite Terminals (RCSTs) / VSAT satellite modems

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll dvbRcsSystemOduAntennaSize, dvbRcsSystemOduAntennaGain, and dvbRcsSystemOduSspa to confirm the terminal's outdoor unit hardware matches the expected installation, and check dvbRcsSystemOduTxType/dvbRcsSystemOduRxType along with dvbRcsSystemOduRxBand and dvbRcsSystemOduRxLO to verify RF configuration. dvbRcsSystemLocation and the dvbRcsSystemSatLabsProfilesDeclaration/OptionsDeclaration/FeaturesDeclaration objects help confirm the terminal is correctly geolocated and declaring the interoperability profile it supports. A mismatch in ODU RX local oscillator or an unexpected SatLabs profile declaration would point to a misconfigured or incompatible terminal at a remote site.

What Can Be Monitored

  • outdoor unit (ODU) antenna size and gain
  • ODU transmit/receive type and band
  • ODU receive local oscillator frequency
  • terminal location
  • SatLabs profile/options/features declaration
