Category: VLAN and Bridging, Vendor: Aastra

Description: Configures Aastra bridge parameters including spanning tree, port forwarding, and MAC address management.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CXCFG-BR-MIB?

CXCFG-BR-MIB is a vendor MIB from Aastra covering bridging (Layer 2) configuration on Aastra network devices, including spanning tree, port forwarding behavior, and MAC address table management. It exposes primarily configuration-category data describing how the device's bridge/switch fabric is set up, aligned with the standard Bridge MIB (RFC 4188/BRIDGE-MIB) conventions it references via objects like cxCfgDot1dBaseMibLevel. Its role in monitoring is mostly to confirm the software configuration state of the bridging subsystem -- e.g. which dot1d Bridge MIB level/feature set is active -- as an indicator of whether spanning tree and forwarding behavior will operate as expected, rather than exposing raw hardware health data. It is explicitly dependent on the standard BRIDGE-MIB (dot1dBase) framework, as reflected by its cxCfgDot1dBaseMibLevel object naming convention. It is typically deployed on Aastra enterprise switches or VoIP-integrated network devices requiring Layer 2 bridging management. Engineers can download the CXCFG-BR-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CXCFG-BR-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Aastra enterprise switches/bridges

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll cxCfgDot1dBaseMibLevel to determine which level of the standard dot1d Bridge MIB (transparent bridging, source-route, or both) the device supports, which governs what spanning-tree and MAC-table monitoring is possible via the companion standard BRIDGE-MIB. A mismatch between the expected and reported MIB level would reveal that spanning tree or MAC address management features assumed by network management tooling are not actually available on that device.

What Can Be Monitored

  • dot1d Bridge MIB conformance level
  • spanning tree configuration
  • port forwarding state
  • MAC address table management
