Category: Device Management, Vendor: Cabletron/Enterasys
Description: Manages Cabletron WebView embedded web management configuration, HTTP server settings, and access control.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CTRON-WEBVIEW-MIB?
CTRON-WEBVIEW-MIB is a Cabletron Systems proprietary MIB for configuring and monitoring the WebView embedded HTTP management interface built into Cabletron devices. It exposes objects controlling the embedded web server's configuration, documentation/help support settings, authentication scheme, and access-control credentials (admin UID, username, password) used to secure the device's web-based management console. It functions primarily as a configuration MIB for the management-plane software, but its status objects, such as authentication nonce counts and configuration/status groupings, allow monitoring whether the embedded web management service is enabled, correctly configured, and secured against unauthorized access. It has an implicit dependency on the device's core system MIB for identifying which device instance the WebView service configuration applies to, and it interacts with HTTP/authentication standards rather than another SNMP MIB directly. It was deployed on Cabletron/Enterasys switches, hubs, and routers that offered an embedded web GUI as an alternative to CLI or SNMP-based management. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the CTRON-WEBVIEW-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CTRON-WEBVIEW-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cabletron/Enterasys switch, hub, or router with embedded WebView management
Monitoring Examples
An administrator can poll ctEwvAuthScheme to verify which authentication mechanism is enforced on the embedded web server, and check ctEwvAuthNonceValidCount to gauge authentication activity or detect unusual spikes suggesting a brute-force attempt. Reviewing ctEwvDocSupportUsername and ctEwvDocSupportPassword configuration helps an operator audit whether WebView access is properly locked down and not left at insecure defaults. The ctEwvConfiguration and ctEwvStatus groups let a monitoring tool confirm the WebView service is administratively enabled and operationally running on each managed device.
What Can Be Monitored
- WebView HTTP server configuration
- authentication scheme in use
- authentication nonce activity
- admin credential configuration
- WebView service operational status
