Category: VLAN and Bridging, Vendor: Cabletron/Enterasys

Description: Manages Cabletron SFPS VLAN assignments, VLAN membership, and inter-VLAN routing within SecureFast networks.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CTRON-SFPS-VLAN-MIB?

CTRON-SFPS-VLAN-MIB is a Cabletron Systems enterprise MIB for the SecureFast Packet Switching (SFPS) API, defining VLAN configuration and control objects for Cabletron's SecureFast virtual-LAN switching architecture. The sfpsVAPIVerb-driven vlanAPI group provides a verb-based command interface (add-vlan, delete-vlan, enable/disable-vlan, map/unmap-port, map/unmap-user, tap/untap-vlan, auto-register/unregister) for programmatically manipulating VLAN and port mappings, while vlanNameTable reports each configured VLAN's admin/operational status, unicast policy (open/secure), flood policy, enabled and mapped port lists, and relay-agent IP. The vlanSystemTable tracks per-switch-instance VLAN engine health (admin/operational status, reset control, uptime, last-change timestamp, firmware/MIB revision, and SNMP poll timing), and vlanPortTable/vlanAMRRulesTable expose per-port VLAN policy plus Automatic Membership/Registration (AMR) rules that auto-classify traffic by Ethernet type, IP subnet, NetBIOS, IPX server, AppleTalk, DECnet, VINES, or BPDU. It depends on the companion CTRON-SFPS-INCLUDE-MIB for its base object subtrees (vlanAPI, vlanName, vlanSystem, and related groups) and is deployed on Cabletron SecureFast VLAN-capable switches, and administrators can download the CTRON-SFPS-VLAN-MIB file to manage or monitor SecureFast VLAN configuration.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CTRON-SFPS-VLAN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cabletron Systems SecureFast (SFPS) VLAN-capable switches

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls vlanNameOperStatus and vlanNameEnabledPorts/vlanNameMappedPorts for each VLAN to confirm expected ports remain mapped, and checks vlanSystemOperStatus for the switch instance itself; a VLAN stuck in invalid-config(6) or a switch instance reporting pending-disable(4) would indicate a configuration error or an in-progress shutdown affecting that VLAN's traffic.

What Can Be Monitored

  • VLAN admin/operational status
  • enabled and mapped port lists per VLAN
  • unicast and flood policy per VLAN
  • VLAN switch-instance engine health and uptime
  • AMR auto-registration rule status
