Category: Vendor: HP/HPE

Description: Manages Compaq/HP I/O driver and host bus adapter status for server peripheral connectivity.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CPQIODRV-MIB?

The CPQIODRV-MIB is a Compaq (later HP/HPE) proprietary MIB module for managing the I/O driver and host bus adapter (HBA) layer on Compaq/HP ProLiant servers, part of the Compaq Insight Manager (CIM) agent family. It exposes data about I/O driver components, host bus adapters, and their capacity/configuration attributes as visible to the operating system driver stack. It is chiefly used to monitor the hardware status of storage connectivity components in a server, verifying that I/O drivers are loaded correctly, tracking adapter revision/capacity information, and detecting driver-level faults that could indicate a failing HBA or misconfigured storage path. As a CPQ-family MIB it depends on the broader Compaq/HP enterprise MIB tree and typically requires the Compaq/HP Insight Management Agent to be installed alongside standard MIB-II. It is deployed on Compaq/HP ProLiant rack and tower servers, where CPQIODRV-MIB SNMP monitoring gives visibility into I/O subsystem health that isn't exposed by generic OS or SNMP MIBs.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CPQIODRV-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Compaq/HP ProLiant server
  • host bus adapter (HBA)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator polling cpqIoDrvComponent and cpqIoDrvInfo can enumerate each registered I/O driver component and inspect cpqIoDrvCapacity and cpqIoDrvMibRev to confirm the driver version and reported capacity match expectations for the installed HBA. Watching cpqIoDrvInfoBeacon lets a monitoring tool detect when the agent flags a beacon/identify condition on a component, useful for locating a specific card in a chassis during maintenance. If cpqIoDrvExtn attributes disappear or fail to update, it can signal a driver crash or unresponsive HBA that would otherwise go unnoticed until a storage timeout occurs.

What Can Be Monitored

  • I/O driver component status
  • host bus adapter capacity
  • driver MIB revision
  • component beacon/identify state
