This Counter reports the upper word of the total physical bytes written to the IO Drive, including any write amplification from wear-leveling and garbage collection overhead. An admin uses this combined with the lower word alongside the logical-bytes-written figure to calculate write amplification, a key factor in drive wearout. For example, a physical-bytes-written total much higher than the logical-bytes-written total indicates significant write amplification is accelerating the card's wear.
