Description: Configures maximum connection counts per wireless client on Colubris/HP access points.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is COLUBRIS-CONNECTION-LIMITING-MIB?
COLUBRIS-CONNECTION-LIMITING-MIB is a Colubris Networks (HP) MIB for configuring maximum concurrent connection limits per user and system-wide on wireless access points, a resource-control/capacity-protection feature. It exposes configuration data (maximum connections per user, maximum system-wide connections) and identifying information about a client (MAC/IP address) that triggers a limit-violation notification. Its monitoring value is in flagging anomalous client software/service behavior: a client that repeatedly hits its connection limit could indicate malware, a misbehaving application, or an attempted denial-of-service condition on the AP, rather than a hardware issue. It complements the Colubris AAA and client-tracking MIBs, which identify and authenticate the clients whose connections are being limited. It is deployed in enterprise wireless networks where operators want to cap per-client resource usage and be alerted to abuse. Engineers can download the COLUBRIS-CONNECTION-LIMITING-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in COLUBRIS-CONNECTION-LIMITING-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Colubris/HP wireless access point/controller
Monitoring Examples
An admin would set connectionLimitingMaximumUserConnections and connectionLimitingMaximumSystemConnections to define per-user and system-wide caps. When a client exceeds its allotment, connectionLimitingUserMACAddress and connectionLimitingUserIPAddress identify the offending device in the resulting notification (governed by connectionLimitingNotificationEnabled). Repeated limit-violation notifications from the same MAC address would point to a specific misbehaving client device needing investigation.
What Can Be Monitored
- maximum connections allowed per user
- maximum system-wide connection limit
- offending client MAC/IP address on limit violation
- connection-limit notification enable state
