Description: HP ICF SNMP MIB for instrumentation and internal module management tracking operational subsystems on HP ProCurve devices.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is HP-ICF-INST-MIB?
HP-ICF-INST-MIB is an HP proprietary "Instrumentation" MIB for the HP ICF product line, providing a generic framework for internal performance and diagnostic parameters tracked by various subsystems on HP ProCurve/Aruba switches. It exposes an enable/disable control (hpicfInstEnable), a maximum-memory setting for instrumentation data (hpicfInstMaxMemMB), and a parameter table indexed by interface and time interval that stores named performance-parameter values and their recorded minimums. This is a software/performance-monitoring MIB that lets an administrator track arbitrary internal counters or metrics per interface and per interval, useful for diagnosing developing performance anomalies over time rather than checking physical hardware directly. It is closely paired with the companion HP-ICF-INST-MON MIB, which layers thresholding and notification on top of these same parameters. It is deployed on HP ProCurve/Aruba switches where administrators enable internal instrumentation to track detailed interface/performance parameters for diagnostics. Engineers can download the HP-ICF-INST-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HP-ICF-INST-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- HP ProCurve switch
- HP Aruba (ICF-based) switch
Monitoring Examples
hpicfInstParameterTable/Entry rows, keyed by hpicfInstParameterIndex, hpicfInstInterfaceIndex, and hpicfInstIntervalIndex, expose a named metric via hpicfInstParameterName along with its recorded hpicfInstParameterValue and hpicfInstParamValMin over a given interval. An administrator first sets hpicfInstEnable to turn on instrumentation and hpicfInstMaxMemMB to bound the memory used for collected data, then polls the parameter table per interface to spot a metric whose value has drifted far from its recorded minimum, indicating a developing performance problem on that interface.
What Can Be Monitored
- instrumentation enable state
- max memory allocated for instrumentation
- per-interface performance parameter values
- parameter minimum values
- per-interval parameter tracking
