Category: Network Interfaces

Description: Provides protocol conversion and media translation management objects for gateway devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CONV-MIB?

CONV-MIB is a vendor MIB providing protocol conversion and media/circuit translation management objects, most likely for a multiplexer or protocol gateway device given its cxConv and cxFwkCircuit object naming (cx suggesting a Crossroads/Cascade-style vendor prefix). It exposes configuration and operational data organized as a conversion port table and an associated circuit/framework table, covering per-port settings such as an alias name, IfIndex linkage, administrative row status, operational state, and compression settings with a compatibility flag. Its monitoring value centers on device configuration and operational status: cxConvState reveals whether a conversion port is up, down, or in another operational condition, and cxConvRowStatus reflects whether a configured entry is active, while cxConvCompression/cxConvCompCompatibility expose whether compression is enabled and interoperable with the far end. There is a clear dependency on ifIndex from the standard IF-MIB/Interfaces group for linking conversion ports to underlying network interfaces. It would typically be deployed on a WAN/protocol-conversion gateway or channel bank that translates between different Layer 2 protocols or media types across circuits. Engineers can download the CONV-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CONV-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • protocol conversion gateway
  • WAN media translation device

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would walk cxConvTable/cxConvEntry to see each conversion port's cxConvPortAlias, cxConvIfIndex, and cxConvState, quickly spotting a port whose state has dropped from up to down. Checking cxConvCompression and cxConvCompCompatibility together would reveal a misconfigured link where compression is enabled locally but incompatible with the remote end, a common cause of circuit errors. The related cxFwkCircuitTable/cxFwkCircuitEntry would then be checked to correlate the conversion port with the higher-level circuit it belongs to for end-to-end troubleshooting.

What Can Be Monitored

  • conversion port operational state
  • port row/configuration status
  • interface index linkage
  • compression enabled/compatibility
  • circuit association
