What Is CM-PROTECTION-MIB?

CM-PROTECTION-MIB is a Ceragon/ADVA Optical Networking MIB for the F3 (FSP150CM/CC) microwave radio product line, managing protection-switching configuration and status for redundant radio links. It exposes configuration data (switch mode, revertive behavior, wait-to-restore timing, working/protection port assignment) as well as operational status showing which port is currently carrying traffic. It is directly a hardware/fault-status monitoring MIB: cmFacProtGroupStatus and the work/protect port assignments reveal whether the link has failed over from its primary radio path to the backup, which is a critical indicator of a hardware fault on the working link. It is part of the Ceragon/ADVA FSP150 product-specific MIB family and would typically be used alongside other F3 platform MIBs (e.g. for physical interface/port identities). It is deployed in microwave-radio backhaul networks where operators need to know immediately when a protection switchover has occurred on a critical link. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the CM-PROTECTION-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

Monitoring Examples

An admin would poll cmFacProtGroupTable/Entry, keyed by cmFacProtGroupIndex, checking cmFacProtGroupStatus and comparing it against the configured cmFacProtGroupWorkPort and cmFacProtGroupProtPort to see whether traffic has failed over to the protection port. cmFacProtGroupRevertive and cmFacProtGroupWaitToRestore reveal whether the group is configured to automatically switch back to the working port once it recovers, and after how long. cmFacProtGroupAction lets an operator manually force a protection switch, and cmProtNotifications would alert the NOC in real time when an automatic switchover occurs, indicating a fault on the primary radio path.
