What Is CISCO-WAN-PAR-MIB?
CISCO-WAN-PAR-MIB manages routing node and interface configuration for Cisco WAN switching platforms, covering node identity and inter-node trunk interfaces used for network topology and routing propagation. It exposes node-level objects such as node ID, node IP, node name, software revision, alarm status, and trunk count, plus an interface table covering logical interface identity, type, operational status, and transmit bandwidth. Its monitoring value centers on node/software and interface hardware status: an active node alarm status flags a fault condition on the node, the node revision object reports the node's software revision for version auditing, and interface operational status reveals whether a given inter-node trunk interface is operationally up or down. Node-number changes are explicitly propagated through a node state machine as described in the module, implying dependency on Cisco's WAN node-state-machine/topology-management framework. It is deployed on Cisco MGX WAN switching platforms forming a routed node topology, such as PAR/AutoRoute-based networks. Engineers can download the CISCO-WAN-PAR-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-WAN-PAR-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco MGX WAN switch (routing node)
- Cisco WAN switches (StrataCom IGX/BPX ATM switching platforms)
Monitoring Examples
An operator would poll parSnNodeAlarmStatus to check for active fault conditions on a given routing node, and parSnRevision to confirm the node is running the expected software version across the network. parIfTable/parIfEntry keyed by parIfLogicalInterface would be checked for parIfOperStatus to identify a down inter-node trunk, and parIfTxBw to confirm the configured transmit bandwidth on that trunk matches expectations. parSnNumberOfTrunks gives a quick count of trunks attached to the node for topology verification.
What Can Be Monitored
- node alarm status
- node software revision
- trunk interface operational status
- trunk transmit bandwidth
- number of trunks per node
