What Is SYSLOG-TC-MIB?
SYSLOG-TC-MIB is an IETF-standard MIB defining textual conventions for syslog messages, specifically the SyslogFacility and SyslogSeverity data types representing standard syslog facility codes (kernel, mail, daemon, etc.) and severity levels (emergency through debug). As a textual-conventions-only module, each SYSLOG-TC-MIB OID it defines (such as SyslogFacility and SyslogSeverity) is a shared data type rather than a table or runtime object, so the module itself has no directly pollable data. Its role in hardware/software status monitoring is indirect: other MIBs and syslog-forwarding mechanisms use these facility/severity type definitions to classify and report software/hardware fault events, log messages, and alarms consistently across vendors. It is explicitly designed to be imported by other syslog-related MIBs, such as SYSLOG-MSG-MIB, that define the actual message tables. It is typically found as a supporting/imported module on any network device or server implementing SNMP-based syslog message reporting.
