What Is CISCO-SWITCH-QOS-MIB?

This Cisco MIB extends CISCO-CLASS-BASED-QOS-MIB with configuration and statistics specific to Layer 2/3 switching QoS on Cisco Catalyst-class switches operating within (or at the edge of) a single QoS domain. It exposes mostly configuration data - CoS-to-DSCP and IP-precedence-to-DSCP mappings, port queueing mode, marking behavior, and policer/redirect settings - along with enable flags for marking statistics collection. Its monitoring role centers on software/configuration status: verifying that QoS classification and marking policy is correctly programmed and active on switch hardware, rather than reporting temperature, CPU, or fan health. It has an explicit, stated dependency on CISCO-CLASS-BASED-QOS-MIB, which it extends. Typical deployment is at a QoS domain boundary switch where CoS/DSCP/MPLS-EXP mappings and marking need to be verified for correct trust and reclassification behavior. csqCosToDscpTable/csqCosToDscpEntry rows expose csqCosToDscpCos paired with csqCosToDscpDscp so an admin can verify the active CoS-to-DSCP mapping, while csqIpPrecToDscpTable/csqIpPrecToDscpEntry does the same for IP precedence. Toggling and then polling csqMarkingStatisticsEnable lets an operator confirm marking statistics collection is active before troubleshooting a trust boundary, and csqPortQueueingModeEnable reveals whether a port is in the expected queueing mode. An unexpected DSCP value returned for a given CoS in csqCosToDscpTable would indicate a misconfigured or stale QoS policy on that switch.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using csqIfStatsDropPkts OID:

Select a Cisco Catalyst Layer 2/3 switch (QoS) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type csqIfStatsDropPkts into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The number of packets that have been received then dropped from the interface because they exceeded the threshold value configured at this queue and threshold of this interface. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter64-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases between polls, since a rising count of errors, failures, or discards often points to a real underlying problem. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
