Description: Manages Management Frame Protection (MFP) settings on Cisco LWAPP controllers to secure 802.11 management frames.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-LWAPP-MFP-MIB?

CISCO-LWAPP-MFP-MIB is a Cisco enterprise MIB implemented on Wireless LAN Controllers acting as Central Controllers for LWAPP-based access points, used to configure and monitor Management Frame Protection (MFP), a security feature that protects 802.11 management frames from spoofing. It exposes per-WLAN MFP settings (protection type, version required, client protection mode), a per-client table of MFP enablement, and controller-wide AP impersonation-detection and key-refresh settings. This is chiefly a security configuration/status monitoring MIB: cLMfpClientMfpEnabled and cLMfpCtrlTimeBaseStatus let an operator confirm whether frame protection is actually active for specific clients and whether the controller's time base (needed for MFP's cryptographic timestamping) is valid, while cLMfpApImpersonation flags detected rogue-AP impersonation attempts. It depends on the broader LWAPP/CAPWAP controller-AP architecture shared with related CISCO-LWAPP-* MIBs. It is deployed on Cisco wireless LAN controllers in enterprise Wi-Fi networks with heightened security requirements against management-frame spoofing attacks. Engineers can download the CISCO-LWAPP-MFP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-LWAPP-MFP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco Wireless LAN Controller (WLC)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll cLMfpWlanConfigTable/cLMfpWlanConfigEntry to check cLMfpProtectionEnable and cLMfpVersionRequired per WLAN, ensuring MFP is enforced as intended. Checking cLMfpClientTable/cLMfpClientEntry for cLMfpClientMfpEnabled per associated client reveals which clients are actually protected versus falling back to unprotected association. A nonzero cLMfpApImpersonation counter combined with an invalid cLMfpCtrlTimeBaseStatus would indicate either a real rogue-AP attack or a controller clock problem undermining MFP's cryptographic validation.

What Can Be Monitored

  • MFP protection enablement per WLAN
  • per-client MFP status
  • AP impersonation detection count
  • controller time-base validity for MFP
  • key refresh interval
