Description: Implements the IETF Provider Provisioned VPN MPLS-VPN draft MIB for L3VPN management.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is CISCO-IETF-PPVPN-MPLS-VPN-MIB?
CISCO-IETF-PPVPN-MPLS-VPN-MIB is Cisco's implementation of an early IETF Provider-Provisioned VPN draft MIB, used to manage and report on MPLS Layer 3 VPN (MPLS-VPN) state on Cisco routers acting as PE (Provider Edge) routers. As an extension of the base MPLS-VPN-MIB, it primarily adds a single new notification, mplsNumVrfRouteMaxThreshCleared, signaling that a VRF's route count has dropped back below a configured maximum-routes threshold after previously exceeding it. Its monitoring value is narrowly focused on VRF route-scale fault/health status: detecting when a customer VPN routing instance approaches or recovers from a route-count limit, which is a software/control-plane health indicator rather than physical hardware status. It explicitly depends on and extends the base MPLS-VPN-MIB (MPLS-VPN-MIB-DRAFT-05), inheriting its object structure and requiring that MIB for full context. It is typically deployed on Cisco PE routers in service-provider MPLS/VPN backbones where operators need alerting on VRF route-table threshold events. Engineers can download the CISCO-IETF-PPVPN-MPLS-VPN-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-IETF-PPVPN-MPLS-VPN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco PE (Provider Edge) router
Monitoring Examples
This module itself is a small conformance/notification extension: it defines cMplsVpnNotifs (containing the mplsNumVrfRouteMaxThreshCleared trap), cMplsVpnObjects, and the cMplsVpnConform/cMplsVpnCompliances/cMplsVpnGroups conformance groups, without introducing its own runtime data tables. A realistic use is trap-based alerting: an NMS subscribing to mplsNumVrfRouteMaxThreshCleared would log a VRF recovering from a route-count-over-threshold condition, correlating it with the corresponding raise notification defined in the base MPLS-VPN-MIB. No new pollable performance tables are introduced beyond this notification and its conformance scaffolding.
What Can Be Monitored
- VRF route-count threshold cleared events
