Description: Manages the IP multicast forwarding table and related statistics for multicast traffic management.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-IPMCAST-MIB?

CISCO-IPMCAST-MIB is a Cisco enterprise MIB that manages IP multicast forwarding and routing information on Cisco routers and switches. It belongs to the IP multicast networking area, exposing configuration and statistics for multicast forwarding entries, distribution trees, and related traffic counters. Administrators use it primarily to monitor performance and fault conditions in multicast delivery, such as forwarding rate counters, dropped/errored multicast packets, and the health of multicast routing state rather than classic hardware sensors like temperature or fans. It commonly complements or extends the standard IETF IP-MULTICAST-MIB, adding Cisco-specific statistics not covered by the standards-based multicast MIB. It is typically deployed on core and distribution routers running PIM in enterprise and service-provider networks that carry IPTV, video conferencing, or financial market-data multicast feeds. Engineers can download the CISCO-IPMCAST-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-IPMCAST-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Cisco router
  • Cisco Layer 3 switch

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls the multicast forwarding table entries and per-entry packet/byte counters exposed by this MIB to confirm that a video-distribution multicast group is being forwarded correctly across a router's outgoing interface list. A sudden drop in forwarding counts or a spike in multicast forwarding failures for a (S,G) entry signals a lost feed or an upstream PIM neighbor failure.

What Can Be Monitored

  • multicast forwarding table entries
  • multicast packet/byte counters per group
  • multicast route state
  • forwarding failures/drops
