What Is CISCO-H225-MIB?

CISCO-H225-MIB manages H.225.0 call signaling and RAS (Registration, Admission, and Status) statistics on Cisco H.323 voice/video gateways, covering the ITU-T H.323 protocol suite used to set up real-time audio/video/data connections between endpoints such as terminals and gateways. It exposes counters for call setup, setup-confirm, alerting, and progress signaling messages, broken down by inbound/outbound direction and by success or failure, giving visibility into H.323 call establishment health. It is used to monitor the software/protocol-level status of voice gateway call signaling, specifically whether call setup attempts are succeeding or failing at abnormal rates, which is a direct indicator of gateway or trunk health. It depends on the ITU-T H.225.0/H.323 protocol specifications for its object semantics rather than an IETF MIB. It is deployed on Cisco voice/video gateways and gatekeepers handling H.323-based VoIP or videoconferencing traffic. Engineers can download the CISCO-H225-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

An admin can poll h225CallSignalStatsSetupOuts against h225CallSignalStatsSetupFails to compute a call setup failure rate for outbound calls, and check h225CallSignalStatsAlertingIns/Outs to confirm alerting messages are being exchanged normally during call ringing. A rising failure count in h225CallSignalStatsSetupConFails would indicate a problem completing call setup confirmation, pointing to a gateway or far-end signaling issue.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using h225CallSignalStatsSetupIns OID:

Select a Cisco H.323 voice/video gateway or gatekeeper as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type h225CallSignalStatsSetupIns into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. The number of Setup messages received by this entity. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
