mrbranchState
Module: CISCO-IPMCAST-MIB
OID (symbolic): CISCO-IPMCAST-MIB::mrbranchState
OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.10.4.1.2.1.1
Node type: OBJECT-TYPE
Type: INTEGER
Access: read-write
Description: The state of the SNMP-invoked mrbranch facility. Only one such mrbranch may be in progress at a time. When this object has the value 'inactive', setting it to 'active' causes an mrbranch to be invoked using the values of mrbranchGroup, mrbranchBranch and mrbranchTimeout which were set either concurrently or most recently. The value stays 'active' until the mrbranch completes/times-out at which time it becomes 'inactive'. Setting this value to 'active' when it is already 'active' it is an error. Setting it to 'inactive' either cancels the active mrbranch or is a no-op.
What is mrbranchState?
This controls an SNMP-driven diagnostic facility called 'mrbranch' that traces a multicast distribution tree, and per its description only one mrbranch operation can run at a time; setting this from 'inactive' to 'active' triggers a new trace using whatever group, branch address, and timeout were most recently configured. It matters because it's essentially a remote-triggered mtrace-like tool an admin can invoke purely through SNMP rather than needing CLI or a separate mtrace utility. An NMS wanting to diagnose a multicast delivery problem to 239.5.5.5 would first set mrbranchGroup and mrbranchBranch, then flip this object to 'active' to kick off the trace.
Examples
Walk all instances (SNMPv2c):
snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.10.4.1.2.1.1 snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> CISCO-IPMCAST-MIB::mrbranchState
Get a specific instance (index 1):
snmpget -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.10.4.1.2.1.1.1 snmpget -v2c -c public <target> CISCO-IPMCAST-MIB::mrbranchState.1
Set instance 1 (SNMPv2c):
snmpset -v2c -c private <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.10.4.1.2.1.1.1 i <value>
