Category: IP and Core Protocols
Description: Manages ISDN BRI (Basic Rate Interface) channel options and dial-up configuration.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is BRI-OPT-MIB?
BRI-OPT-MIB is a legacy vendor MIB (naming suggests a Cabletron/Digital "cdx6500" product line) for managing ISDN BRI (Basic Rate Interface) channel options and dial-up port configuration. Its scope, based on the available objects, is protocol-group assignment for BRI-related serial ports (PCT and PST port groups) rather than broad system telemetry. It is used primarily for configuration verification of dial-backup/ISDN links rather than deep hardware sensor data, though it would typically be checked alongside interface up/down status to confirm a BRI channel is actually passing calls. No module description was available, so deeper dependency context can't be confirmed, but the vendor naming suggests reliance on a proprietary product-line OID tree alongside standard interface MIBs. It would have been deployed on legacy WAN access routers/concentrators providing ISDN BRI dial backup or primary access links. Engineers can download the BRI-OPT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in BRI-OPT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Motorola Codex 6500-series data/statistical multiplexer (legacy)
Monitoring Examples
An admin reads cdx6500PCTPortProtocolGroup and cdx6500PSTPortProtocolGroup to confirm which protocol group is bound to a given BRI port, catching a misconfiguration that would prevent ISDN call setup from succeeding. Because only these two configuration objects are present in the available data, deeper runtime counters aren't confirmed here; monitoring in practice would combine this configuration check with standard interface status tables.
What Can Be Monitored
- BRI port protocol group assignment
- PCT port configuration state
- PST port configuration state

Link goes to another 6500 device INLA - set with INL option when an X.25 link connection is to a 6500 node using 2.12.04 or earlier DELAY - Enable Delay and Path Trace on this link (link must be connected to Rel. 4.xx node) Any combination of above specified by summing (e.g. 1980+NUI+. . .). |

RFC description
Vendor-private MIB for BRI (Basic Rate Interface) ISDN optical equipment; manages BRI optical transceiver parameters and diagnostics.
Start monitoring Motorola Codex 6500-series data/statistical multiplexer (legacy) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
