Category: Cisco Devices, IP and Core Protocols, SNMP Framework

Description: Defines SNMP agent capability statements for the Cisco DNS Client MIB on supported IOS and NX-OS platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is CISCO-DNS-CLIENT-CAPABILITY?

CISCO-DNS-CLIENT-CAPABILITY is an AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance module for the CISCO-DNS-CLIENT-MIB on supported Cisco IOS and NX-OS platforms, not a data-bearing MIB in its own right. It declares which object groups of the DNS client data MIB a particular agent build implements, without exposing DNS configuration, resolver status, or query statistics itself. Because it carries no runtime objects, it has no direct role in monitoring hardware or software health; its purpose is purely to let management systems verify feature support before polling the real DNS client MIB. Its dependency is entirely on the CISCO-DNS-CLIENT-MIB it describes. It is used by SNMP management tooling during compilation/capability discovery rather than in live monitoring dashboards. Engineers can download the CISCO-DNS-CLIENT-CAPABILITY file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in CISCO-DNS-CLIENT-CAPABILITY. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral SNMP tooling artifact, applies to Cisco IOS and NX-OS devices

Monitoring Examples

This module defines no tables, counters, or status objects of its own (sample_objects is empty); it is a pure AGENT-CAPABILITIES conformance statement, so there is no monitoring scenario to illustrate here.
