Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is A3COM-SWITCHING-SYSTEMS-POLL-MIB?

A3COM-SWITCHING-SYSTEMS-POLL-MIB is a legacy 3Com proprietary MIB (enterprise OID 43) providing remote device-polling/monitoring facilities. Its poll table, keyed by index, lets an administrator configure a target address, poll count/attempts/rate, response timeout, packet size, source address, and reports min/avg/max round-trip time plus frames sent/received, with an owner field, a free-text information field, a report field, and an action object to activate a poll. As a diagnostic/status MIB it lets an administrator set up a lightweight SNMP-driven ping-style reachability monitor for a list of devices and be informed of devices that start/stop responding. It is deployed on legacy 3Com switching equipment. Engineers can download the A3COM-SWITCHING-SYSTEMS-POLL-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in A3COM-SWITCHING-SYSTEMS-POLL-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Legacy 3Com switching equipment

Monitoring Examples

An administrator configures a3ComPollTable entries for a set of critical devices and sets a3ComPollAction to activate(2) to begin polling, then reads a3ComPollReport to see which devices are failing to respond.
