RS-232 Serial Port

OIDs here configure the classic asynchronous serial parameters — baud rate, parity, data bits, and stop bits — for a device's RS-232 console or management port. All four settings must match on both ends of the serial cable, the device and whatever terminal or terminal server connects to it, or the connection will produce garbled or unreadable output. Admins typically only touch these when setting up out-of-band console access to a device that doesn't support network management yet, or when connecting older equipment that doesn't default to the now-common 9600-baud, 8-data-bit, no-parity, 1-stop-bit combination.
