Category: Wireless and WLAN

Description: Manages ZyXEL wireless access points, providing objects for software version, WLAN configuration, TFTP operations, and associated wireless station information.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is ZYXEL-PROWIRELESS-MIB?

ZYXEL-PROWIRELESS-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB for ZyXEL wireless access points, exposing objects for software version, WLAN/SSID configuration, TFTP-based firmware/configuration transfer operations, and information about associated wireless client stations and neighboring access points. It provides both configuration data (AP detection interval, SSID settings) and runtime status data such as the table of currently associated wireless stations with their MAC address, associate time, and SSID. For monitoring hardware/software status, this MIB lets an administrator track which client stations are currently associated (and for how long) and detect nearby/rogue access points via the AP detect table, as well as manage/verify the AP's software version and firmware update process via TFTP. It does not appear to have a strong stated dependency on other MIBs, functioning as a self-contained ZyXEL wireless management module, though it complements standard IEEE 802.11 concepts. It is deployed on ZyXEL wireless access points in SOHO or enterprise WLAN deployments, where ZYXEL-PROWIRELESS-MIB SNMP monitoring supports client association tracking and AP discovery/site-survey purposes.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ZYXEL-PROWIRELESS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • ZyXEL wireless access point

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll pwStationTable/pwStationEntry (indexed by pwStationIndex) to see currently associated clients, checking pwStationMacAddress, pwStationSSID, and pwStationAssociateTime to confirm which devices are connected and for how long, with pwStationStatus revealing an unhealthy or disassociating client. The pwAPDetectTable, populated at the interval set by pwAPDetectInterval, would be checked for unexpected pwAPDetectSSID entries that could indicate a rogue or interfering neighboring access point. A station remaining in the table with a stale associate time despite no traffic could indicate a client that disconnected without properly deregistering.

What Can Be Monitored

  • associated wireless station list
  • station MAC address and SSID
  • station association time/status
  • neighboring AP detection (rogue AP scan)
  • AP software/firmware version
