What Is AH-SMI-MIB?

AH-SMI-MIB is Aerohive Networks' enterprise Structure of Management Information (SMI) MIB, which defines the OID registration hierarchy used throughout Aerohive's wireless networking MIB modules. It establishes top-level branches for products, access points, common access-point objects, access-point traps, interfaces, and the AeroHive Mobility Routing Protocol (MRP), providing the namespace that other Aerohive MIBs build on. Its monitoring relevance is structural rather than data-bearing: it underpins access-point hardware/software status reporting (via ahAPCommon and ahAPInterface) and fault notifications (via ahAPTrap) defined in companion Aerohive MIB modules, covering things like AP interface state and MRP mesh routing status. Nearly all other Aerohive product MIBs are dependent on this SMI module for their base OID assignments, so compiling the AH-SMI-MIB MIB is typically the mandatory first step before any other Aerohive module can be loaded. It is deployed in enterprise Wi-Fi environments using Aerohive (now Extreme Networks) wireless access points and controllers.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in AH-SMI-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Monitoring Examples

The module defines branches such as ahAP, ahAPCommon, ahAPInterface, and ahAPTrap, which companion Aerohive MIBs use to expose actual access-point status and interface objects; ahAPMRP anchors mesh-routing related object definitions. An administrator would not walk AH-SMI-MIB itself for live values but would see these OID arcs as the parent nodes under which real AP interface counters and trap definitions are registered in other Aerohive MIBs. As such, this module functions as a registration/namespace MIB rather than a source of pollable runtime data.
