Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is XEDIA-IPBACKUP-MIB?
XEDIA-IPBACKUP-MIB is a Xedia Corporation vendor extension providing additional management objects for IP-level backup path configuration on Xedia devices, layered on top of VRRP or other underlying redundancy protocols. It exposes administrative status objects for IP backup and bridge backup, controlling whether a backup path/interface is enabled, along with the surrounding conformance structure for the backup feature. Its monitoring value is in confirming failover readiness and current state of the device's software-managed redundancy feature; if xipbackupAdminStatus or xipbackupBridgeAdminStatus is unexpectedly disabled, a configured failover path won't activate when the primary path fails. It explicitly builds on VRRP (or other implemented backup procedures) as its underlying mechanism, adding Xedia-specific administrative control on top. It is deployed on Xedia devices used in pairs or groups for IP and bridging path redundancy in enterprise or service-provider access networks. Engineers can download the XEDIA-IPBACKUP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in XEDIA-IPBACKUP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Xedia router/access device
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll xipbackupAdminStatus to confirm IP-level backup is administratively enabled on a device meant to serve as a failover path, and check xipbackupBridgeAdminStatus for the equivalent bridging redundancy setting. If a failover event occurred but the backup path never activated, checking these admin-status objects would quickly reveal whether the backup feature had been left disabled rather than failing at the VRRP protocol level.
What Can Be Monitored
- IP backup administrative status
- bridge backup administrative status
