Category: Xedia Enterprise Networking

Description: Manages Xedia Corp. PIM sparse and dense mode multicast routing, RP configuration, and neighbor state.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is XEDIA-PIM-MIB?

XEDIA-PIM-MIB is a Xedia Corporation enterprise extension MIB for managing Protocol Independent Multicast (PIM) routing, covering both sparse and dense mode operation, rendezvous point (RP) configuration, and PIM neighbor state on Xedia routers. It exposes a PIM interface table recording administrative status per interface along with a module-wide version indicator, giving visibility into whether PIM is enabled and correctly configured on each router interface. This MIB is used to monitor the software/protocol-layer status of multicast routing -- specifically interface-level PIM administrative state -- functioning as a routing protocol health MIB rather than exposing hardware environmental sensors. It is an extension alongside the IETF PIM-MIB, reusing the same general multicast routing concepts for RP and neighbor management. It is typically deployed in multicast-enabled enterprise or service-provider networks using Xedia routing equipment. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the XEDIA-PIM-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in XEDIA-PIM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Xedia Corporation routers

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll xpimInterfaceTable (via xpimInterfaceEntry rows keyed by xpimInterfaceIfIndex) to confirm xpimInterfaceAdminStatus is enabled on interfaces expected to participate in PIM, revealing a misconfigured or accidentally disabled multicast interface. Checking xpimVersion also confirms which PIM protocol version the device is running, relevant when troubleshooting interoperability with neighboring PIM routers.

What Can Be Monitored

  • PIM interface administrative status
  • PIM protocol version
  • per-interface PIM configuration
