xipbackupInstTrackIp

Module: XEDIA-IPBACKUP-MIB

OID (symbolic): XEDIA-IPBACKUP-MIB::xipbackupInstTrackIp

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.838.3.15.1.2.1.2

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: IpAddress

Description: An IP address to be 'tracked' by this backup instance. If this value is set, a backup instance (virtual router) cannot become Master if this interface is not up.

What is xipbackupInstTrackIp?

This value specifies an IP address that a given IP Backup instance (virtual router) should 'track'; per the source description, if this value is set, that virtual router cannot become Master if the interface reachable via this tracked address is down, and it defaults to 0 (no tracking) per the DEFVAL. A network administrator sets this to tie a backup instance's eligibility to become master to the health of some other critical interface or upstream link, preventing it from taking over if that dependency is unavailable. For example, setting xipbackupInstTrackIp to the address of an upstream router interface ensures this backup instance won't become master if that upstream link is down, since it would be a poor choice to serve traffic in that condition.

Examples

Walk all instances (SNMPv2c):

snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.838.3.15.1.2.1.2
snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> XEDIA-IPBACKUP-MIB::xipbackupInstTrackIp

Get a specific instance (index 1):

snmpget -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.838.3.15.1.2.1.2.1
snmpget -v2c -c public <target> XEDIA-IPBACKUP-MIB::xipbackupInstTrackIp.1

Set instance 1 (SNMPv2c):

snmpset -v2c -c private <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.838.3.15.1.2.1.2.1 a <value>
