Category: Power and Environmental Monitoring

Description: Monitors WISI Communications GT-series headend environmental sensors including temperature, voltage, and fan status.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is WISI-GTSENSORS-MIB?

WISI-GTSENSORS-MIB is a WISI Communications enterprise MIB for the GT-series cable/broadcast headend product line, defining the environmental sensors installed in a headend chassis or standalone unit — temperature sensors, power-supply voltage/current measurements, and fan-speed (RPM) sensors. It belongs to the headend/environmental-monitoring technology area and its data is squarely hardware health telemetry: per-sensor temperature readings and fan status/control, with power-supply voltage/current implied by the module description. This MIB is a textbook example of hardware status monitoring: it lets an operator track chassis temperature to catch overheating before it causes a fault, monitor fan operation to detect a stalled or failed fan, and watch for power-supply anomalies that could signal an impending failure. It is a self-contained sensor MIB following the common enterprise pattern of a sensor table plus a conformance/notification group, with no dependency on an external standard MIB shown. It is typically deployed on WISI GT-series headend equipment in cable-TV/broadcast facilities where continuous environmental monitoring is critical to service uptime. Engineers can download the WISI-GTSENSORS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in WISI-GTSENSORS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • WISI GT-series cable/broadcast headend equipment

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls gtNumTemps and the gtTempsTable/gtTempsEntry rows, indexed by gtTemp, for gtTempName and gtTempValue to track the temperature of each named zone in the chassis and alert if any reading exceeds a safe threshold. Similarly, gtNumFans and the gtFansTable/gtFansEntry rows are polled for gtFanName and gtFanControl to confirm each fan is present, correctly controlled, and spinning as expected; a fan entry unexpectedly reporting a stopped or fault control state would indicate a cooling failure needing immediate attention. The gtSensorsNotifications branch defines traps that would fire if a temperature or fan threshold is crossed, complementing the polled sensor data.

What Can Be Monitored

  • chassis temperature per sensor
  • fan presence and control/status
  • power supply voltage/current (implied by sensor description)
  • sensor threshold trap notifications

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using gtFanUptime OID:

Select a WISI GT-series cable/broadcast headend equipment (temperature/voltage-current/fan-RPM status) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type gtFanUptime into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The gtFanUptime entity represents the current uptime of a cooling fan within the GT01/GN50 rack unit. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value is unexpectedly low (e.g. under 10 minutes), since that indicates a recent, possibly unplanned, reboot or restart. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
