Description: Manages WISI Communications GT-series headend module inventory, status, and configuration for cable TV distribution.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is WISI-GTMODULES-MIB?

WISI-GTMODULES-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from WISI Communications covering the GT-series headend module chassis used in cable TV signal distribution systems. It models a rack unit's set of pluggable modules, exposing per-module hardware ID, firmware ID, serial number, and slot position, as well as the current module and total module count in the chassis. Its monitoring emphasis is squarely on hardware and firmware status: each module reports its own uptime and lifetime (cumulative operating time) plus power state, letting operators detect a module that has recently reset, is nearing end-of-life, or has lost power, with a dedicated notifications group for module events. It is a self-contained vendor MIB describing chassis inventory rather than depending on other standard MIBs. It is deployed in cable/CATV headend racks, monitored by broadcast engineering teams to track module inventory and detect hardware faults across a headend system. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the WISI-GTMODULES-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in WISI-GTMODULES-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • WISI GT-series headend module chassis
  • cable/CATV headend equipment

Monitoring Examples

An operator would iterate gtModulesTable/gtModulesEntry to list every module in the rack via gtModuleName, gtModuleHWID, gtModuleFWID, and gtModuleSerNo, cross-referencing against an inventory database. Watching gtModuleUptime reset to zero for a given gtModuleSlot indicates that module rebooted unexpectedly, while a low gtModulePower reading could flag a power-supply or connector issue. gtModuleLifetime helps schedule preventive replacement of modules approaching their expected service life, and gtModulesNotifications would alert staff automatically when such an event occurs.

What Can Be Monitored

  • module hardware ID
  • module firmware ID
  • module serial number
  • module uptime
  • module lifetime/service hours
  • module power status

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using gtModuleUptime OID:

Select a WISI GT-series headend module chassis, cable/CATV headend equipment (per-module hardware-ID/uptime/power-state status) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type gtModuleUptime into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The gtModule entity represents the current uptime of a SFM/MFM module within the GT01/GN50 rack unit. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the value is unexpectedly low (e.g. under 10 minutes), since that indicates a recent, possibly unplanned, reboot or restart. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
