Category: Juniper Unisphere ERX Routing

Description: Manages Juniper/Unisphere ERX MPLS label switching, LSP configuration, and forwarding table entries.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Unisphere-Data-MPLS-MIB?

Unisphere-Data-MPLS-MIB is an enterprise MIB from Unisphere Networks (ERX router line, later Juniper) for configuring and monitoring MPLS label switching. It covers global LSR-wide settings, MPLS-enabled interfaces, tunnel and tunnel-profile definitions, and explicit path objects used to build label-switched paths. Administrators use it to check the software/control-plane health of the MPLS process, such as label range utilization, LDP and RSVP-TE session retry counters, and reoptimization timers, which reveal instability such as repeated LSP setup failures or exhausted label space. It complements (and its concepts parallel) the standard IETF MPLS-LSR-MIB and MPLS-TE-MIB, though it is a proprietary enterprise implementation rather than a direct extension of them. It is deployed on service-provider MPLS core and edge routers running Unisphere/Juniper ERX software. Engineers can download the Unisphere-Data-MPLS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Unisphere-Data-MPLS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Unisphere/Juniper ERX MPLS-enabled router

Monitoring Examples

Polling usdMplsGroupLabelRangeLow/usdMplsGroupLabelRangeHigh shows how much of the label space is provisioned, while a rising usdMplsGroupLspRetryTimes or usdMplsGroupLdpRetryTimesNoroute count indicates LSPs repeatedly failing to signal, often due to a missing route or misconfigured neighbor. usdMplsGroupReopTimer can be checked to confirm the reoptimization interval matches policy. usdMplsLsrGlobalConfig under usdMplsObjects gives the overall enable/disable state of MPLS on the router.

What Can Be Monitored

  • MPLS label range utilization
  • LSP setup retry counts
  • LDP retry/no-route counts
  • reoptimization timer
  • global MPLS enable state
