Description: Manages Unisphere ERX file transfer operations for software upgrades and configuration management.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Unisphere-Data-FILE-XFER-MIB?

Unisphere-Data-FILE-XFER-MIB is a vendor MIB for Unisphere/Juniper ERX edge routers that manages remote file transfer operations, most commonly used for software image upgrades and configuration backup/restore. It exposes a file-transfer table with direction (upload/download), file type, remote filename/credentials, local filename, transfer protocol, and a row-status/status column to track each transfer job, plus notification objects for transfer completion events. Its monitoring focus is squarely software/operations oriented: administrators track the status of in-progress or completed configuration and firmware transfers to confirm a software upgrade or config backup succeeded or failed. It is a self-contained enterprise MIB with no strong dependency on other standard MIBs beyond general SNMP table conventions (RowStatus). It is deployed on Juniper/Unisphere ERX routers whenever operators automate firmware upgrades or configuration backups via SNMP-driven file transfer rather than manual CLI/FTP sessions. Engineers can download the Unisphere-Data-FILE-XFER-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Unisphere-Data-FILE-XFER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Juniper/Unisphere ERX edge routers

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would create a row in usdFileXferTable/usdFileXferTableEntry, setting usdFileXferDirection, usdFileXferFileType, usdFileXferRemoteFileName, usdFileXferProtocol, and usdFileXferRowStatus to active to initiate a transfer, then poll usdFileXferStatus until it reports success or failure. usdFileXferNotifications would fire on completion, alerting the operator without requiring continuous polling. A usdFileXferStatus stuck in an in-progress state or reporting an error code would indicate a failed firmware upgrade or configuration restore.

What Can Be Monitored

  • file transfer direction (upload/download)
  • file transfer type
  • transfer protocol used
  • transfer status
  • transfer completion notifications
